The opening ceremony for the 2012 Paralympic Games begins in a few hours.

In case you’ve been on another planet for the last year, The Paralympic Games, held in the same location as the Olympics since the 1988 Seoul Olympics, are a chance for the world’s top disabled sports men and women to compete internationally for Gold, Silver and Bronze Paralympic medals. They are a celebration of triumph over adversity. Of amazing personal stories. Of magnificent determination to overcome physical, mental and sensorial disabilities to complete in sport at international level.

Organisers expect the 2012 London Paralypmic Games to be the most successful Paralympics ever and Paralympians hope the games will raise the profiles of both disabled athletes and the sports they take part in and have a positive impact on the way disability is perceived. The Paralympics also highlights the importance of good physiotherapy support for Paralympians throughout training and competing.

Good luck ParalympicGB!
